Katariina Havukainen is an award-winning actor, writer and director based in Helsinki, Finland. She is passionate about theatre as a holistic art form — a space where performance, poetry and politics meet. In 2025, she received the Finnish State Award for Public Information, the country’s highest recognition for excellence in communicating knowledge to the public, for her performance Jumppatytöt. (Gymnastics girls)
Her recent works include the acclaimed Jumppatytöt (Gymnastics Girls, Theatre Takomo, 2024), a documentary performance by Katariina Havukainen, Inkeri Hyvönen and Ella Lahdenmäki about aesthetic group gymnastics, which has sold over 80 performances to full houses and continues touring Finland and the Baltics in 2025; Tara (Finnish National Theatre, 2023), a poetry performance created with Sara-Maria Heinonen that toured residential schools and festivals across Finland; and Siegfried (Helsinki City Theatre, 2019), made in collaboration with actor-writer Mikko Kauppila and lighting designer Julia Jäntti.
She is also a member of Vox, a collective of award-winning and passionately driven theatre professionals focusing on playback theatre and, in the future, documentary theatre.
Katariina holds an MA in Acting from Tampere University, and alongside her stage work she has appeared in numerous film and television productions — including Underdog (Solar Films, 2022), Hamsters (MRP, 2023), Bordertown (2019) and the American feature film Dual (2021). As an actor, she is represented by Actors in Scandinavia.
She continues to explore collectivity, collaboration and actor’s dramaturgy throughout her artistic practice.
